„Das Flaggschiff der Hanse Adler von Lübeck (1567-88)“, painted by Olaf Rahardt in 2004. His website: marinemaler-olaf-rahardt.com
The Adler von Lübeck (Eagle of Lübeck) was a 16th-century ship of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in Northern Germany. It was one of the largest ships in the world at the time. It was built during the Seven Years’ War to escort convoys of merchant ships in the Baltic and North Sea, but it was never put into action for this particular job as Lübeck had already entered peace negotiations with Sweden at the time of the ship’s completion. After the Treaty of Stettin from 1570, the Adler was converted into a freighter for trade with the Iberian peninsula.
